I created this painting during my residency in Venice, Italy. I have seen baristas create beautiful images in my coffee cup before, but I had never seen one quite like this. When I decided to paint it, I was with my flatmate, Lisa, and I’ll never forget the panic that ensued while we tried to finish our paintings in time for our art presentation. Though stressful, it still remains as one of my favorite memories in Venice. It was an incredible month-long residency, and this painting will always make me smile.

The 4” x 6” canvas panel was coated with a painting medium called sand plaster. This was such an interesting medium to work with and I wanted to use it in unexpected areas, like the cappuccino foam. I’m very happy with the results and how it mimics the real texture of the table and the bubbles in the foam.
